The pink lapacho (Tabebuia impetiginosa) is a tree in the Bignoniaceae family. Native to tropical America, it grows from Mexico to Argentina. The pink lapacho, which is also known as pink ipe, prefers mountainous regions and is mostly found in Brazil. This tree is currently cultivated. Its bark is commonly used.
Pink lapacho bark contains naphthoquinone derivatives (lapachol, L-menaquinone, α-lapachone and β-lapachone), flavonoids (quercetin derivatives), essential oil, resins, bitter compounds (techomin), minerals, alkaloids, anthraquinones, saponins and benzoic acid derivatives.
The pink lapacho has the following properties:
